life in its simplest form is the product of the mind and the body working together...this product is the being's attempt to create meanings. true, the mind and the body are separate but one has to accept the fact, that they are relative. The body is separate from the mind and thus, they possess different functions and has different roles. but they complement eachother. one cannot fully function without the other. a baby and a corpse cannot create meanings. the baby lacking the right intellectual capacity and the corpse having none. and the mind alone, without the body is inexistent as it latches itself on the body to function...can u think without a brain? of course not... the mind though transcends more that of the brain and the physicality of the being that possesses the brain...that is why its capable of creating values like evil and good and concepts such as time. and so going back to ur question...what is life? life is the capability of the being to create meanings. if one cannot do such, then he has no life. the plants the trees, they are alive, but they do not posses life in a sense that they are just existing and not living. For to live is to consciously direct one's existence. life then is not mere existing but conscious living.
